Inmitten einer antiken Ruine, die sich vor allem durch drei kannelierte Säulen mit korinthischen Kapitellen auszeichnet, wird neben Fragmenten bekannter antiker Statuen auch ein Mann dargestellt, der seinem Werk, nämlich einer vor ihm platzierten Büste, gegenübersteht. Der Bildhauer zeichnet sich durch seine polychrome Kleidung aus, die ihn von dem Steingrau des Werkstoffes und dem Ocker der Architektur abhebt und mit dem Hier und Jetzt der im Durchblick erscheinenden Landschaft das ausgewählte Kolorit gemein hat.
