Die sitzende Madonna nach links in rotem Gewand und blauem Mantel mit dunkelblondem Haar, ihren rechten Arm um den sitzenden nackten Jesusknaben haltend, der mit seiner rechten Hand ihre Wange liebkost. Er blickt dabei mit seinen großen dunklen Augen aus dem Bild heraus. Maria hat unterhalb seines rechten Beines ihre zarten Hände sorgsam gefaltet. Im dunklen Hintergrund, in der oberen linken Ecke ist ein faltiges weinrotes Velum zu erkennen. Einfühlsame Mutter-Kind-Darstellung mit starker Hell-Dunkel-Akzentuierung.
Anmerkung:
Die Darstellung der liebkosenden Madonna ist häufig auf Ikonen zu finden und wird auch als „Madonna Glykophilousa“ bezeichnet.
Ein fast identisches Gemälde des Künstlers wurde am 05. Oktober 2001 bei Sotheby's in New York versteigert. (1261364) (13)

Gentle depiction of the Virgin and Child with strong chiaroscuro.
Notes:
The depiction of the Virgin caressing her son is often found in icons and is also known as “Madonna Glykophilousa”.
An almost identical painting by the artist was sold at Sotheby's in New York on 5 October 2001.
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
