Christoph Schwarz,

Das Gemälde, welches auf die große Kreuztragung von Martin Schongauer zurückgehen mag und diese kompositorisch aufnimmt, zeigt zentral den unter dem Kreuz zusammengesackten Christus mit Goldnimbus und einer reichhaltigen Gruppe von Personen, die ihn auf dem Weg zum Berg Golgatha begleiten. Oben rechts mit nicht identifiziertem viergeteiltem Wappen. Teilweise Farbverluste und brachliegender Malgrund.

Anmerkung:
Eine ebenfalls auf Kupfer gemalte Version des gleichen Themas mit gleichem kompositorischen Aufbau mit nur wenigen Varianten, angeboten am 29. Januar 2015 bei Sotheby‘s New York unter Lot 238. Dort zum Beispiel ohne das Wappen oben rechts über dem Hügel. Eine weitere Version aus dem Umkreis von Christoph Schwarz, welche qualitativ nicht weit von unserem Bild entfernt ist, wurde am 11. November 2016 bei Karl und Faber in München als Christoph Schwarz, Umkreis, angeboten, sodass auch unser Gemälde im Umkreis von Schwarz entstanden sein mag. (1270094) (13)

A painting of the same subject also painted on copper and the same composition with only few variations was offered for sale on 29 January 2015 at Sotheby’s, New York, lot 238. As an example, the coat of arms on the hill in the top right is missing. Another version from the circle of Christoph Schwarz, which is comparable in quality with the present painting, was offered for sale on 11 November 2016 at Karl und Faber in Munich as Christoph Schwarz, circle of, so that the painting here may have also been created in the circle of Schwarz.
