Die nackte schlafende Venus in weiter Landschaft auf einem hellblauen faltenreichen Tuch mit Goldbordüre unter einer Art altrosafarbenen Zelt-Baldachin. Sie liegt nach rechts und hat ihren Kopf auf ihrer linken Hand auf einem Kissen abgestützt. Der hinter ihr stehende nackte Armor mit Köcher und Bogen deckt sie gerade mit einem Schleier zu und weist mit Handgestus vor seinen Lippen einen anderen Putto hin, ruhig zu sein. Dieser löscht darauf seine brennende Fackel auf dem Boden. Harmonische Malerei, bei der das helle Inkarnat der Figuren gegenüber der überwiegend hellblauen und rosafarbenen Umgebung gut zur Geltung kommt.

Der Künstler war ein italienischer Maler des Frühbarock. Er war Schüler von Denis Calvaert und Guido Reni. (12409225) (2) (18)
