Verglast. In vergoldetem Régence-Rähmchen.

Die beiden kleinen Bilder zusammengehörig, äußerst vielfigurig aufgefasst, jeweils in weiten Landschaften mit Hügelerhöhungen, die Figuren im Vordergrund deutlicher hervorgehoben. Im erstgenannten Bild fällt Jesus unter der Last des Kreuzes, während ihm Veronika das Schweißtuch reicht. Links im Bild römische Reiter. Im Gegenstück ist die Kreuzigung Christi in ikonographisch seltener Weise gezeigt, das Kreuz am Boden, darauf Christus mit angezogenen Beinen liegend, während soeben die Hände angenagelt werden. Die beiden Schächer rechts im Vordergrund mit nackten Oberkörpern von Soldaten gehalten. Beide Bilder äußerst narrativ, mit Detaildarstellungen wie etwa einem Mann, der soeben einen Kreuzbalken sägt, oder im Gegenstück das Stadttor Jerusalems mit einer Aufzugwinde. In feiner Miniaturmalerei.
Anmerkung:
Der Künstler war überwiegend als Porzellanmaler tätig. Seine Werke sind aus den Manufakturen in Höchst und Fulda überliefert.

One signed in the centre below "G:IGNAT:HESS PiNXiT".
Round stamp of the Städtische Museum Trier with hand-written no. III 915 and stamped as “ausgeschieden” (eliminated) on the reverse.
In slender, gilt Régence frame under glass.
Notes:
The artist mainly active as porcelain painter. His works have survived from the manufactories in Höchst and Fulda.
