Der Schildkrötenbrunnen wurde 1581 nach einem Entwurf von Giacomo della Porta (1532-1602) vom Bildhauer Taddeo Landini (um 1550-1596) ausgeführt. Der Brunnen befindet sich auf der kleinen Piazza Mattei in Rom.
Alabaster. Basis profiliert und einem quadratischen Grundriss folgend, auf welchem der bronzene Brunnen mit den Figuren, welche die Schildkröten halten, ruht. Deren Wasser mündet in ein aufliegendes Bronzebecken. Ursprünglich war dieses Modell vermutlich auch als Tischbrunnen gedacht, worauf kleinere Löchlein und Öffnungen hindeuten. (1200589) (13)

The turtle fountain was created in 1581 after the design of Giacomo della Porta (1532-1602) by the sculptor Taddeo Landini (ca. 1550-1596). The fountain stands on a small square, the Piazza Mattei in Rome.
