Im Zentrum der Darstellung Halbbildnis einer antik, nur mit einem Fellumhang und Schärpe bekleideten jungen Frau, einen Efeukranz im Haar, die mit Tschinellen spielt. Rechts im Gefolge ein Satyr mit Pansflöten und zwei weitere ähnliche Gestalten im Hintergrund. Links unten wird der antike Musikantenzug fortgesetzt durch ein Hörner spielendes Paar.
Der Maler entstammt einer hugenottischen französischen Familie, die in Sankt Petersburg ansässig war. Berühmt wurde der Maler durch sein Werk "Die letzten Tage von Pompeji", das sich heute im Museum Sankt Petersburg befindet. Seine Reisen führten den jungen Maler durch Europa, bevor er sich der Akademie der Schönen Künste in Sankt Petersburg anschloss. Das vorliegende Gemälde dürfte wohl unter dem Einfluss seines Italienaufenthaltes entstanden sein, wo um 1827 auch weitere italienthematische Werke entstanden.
