Der Maler studierte bei José Luzán (1710-1785) sowie bei Antonio Gonzalez Velasquez (1723-1794). Von Anton Rafael Mengs (1728-1779) wurde er zur Ausgestaltung des königlichen Palastes nach Madrid geholt und zum Hofmaler bei Karl III. Auch seine Brüder Ramón (1746-1793) und Manuel Fray Bayeu y Subías (1740- 1809) waren Maler. Er war verschwägert mit Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828).

Zugewiesen durch mehrere Vergleichsbeispiele in der
Literatur. Gemäß dem Text des Neuen Testaments ist hier Maria im Zentrum der Darstellung wiedergegeben, umringt von den zwölf Aposteln und Jüngern Jesu, deren Position stufig nach hinten erhöht wiedergegeben ist. Eine weiße Taube schwebt von oben herab, umgeben von den Lichtstrahlen, die durch die Wolken dringen. Am Unterrand des Gemäldes ein großes ledergebundenes Buch auf weißem Tuch. Haltung und Physiognomien der Dargestellten in erregter bzw. in erstaunter Aufmerksamkeit des Wunders. Die Bilddarstellung oben halbrund geschlossen und in den Ecken brauntonig belassen, was Farbkompositorisch Bezug nimmt auf die Brauntöne in den Gewändern der unteren Personen.
Der Maler realisierte 1769 eine Serie von vier Gemälden mit den Themen "Geburt Christi", "Die Verkündigung", "Auferstehung" sowie "Das Pfingstwunder". Gemälde, die im Zusammenhang stehen mit der Ausgestaltung der zerstörten Kirche von San Pascual in Aranjuez (siehe: José Luis Morales y Marín, Francisco Bayeu, vida y obra, Zaragoza 1995, S. 86-87, Katalognr. 42-46, S. 129, Nr. 218). Zwei dieser Werke kamen in die Sammlung Grassés y du Pont in Barcelona, ein drittes wird im Museum in Saragossa aufbewahrt. Attributed due to several comparative examples in the specialist literature. In 1769, the painter created a series of four paintings with the subjects The Nativity, The Annunciation, The Resurrection and The Pentecostal Miracle. Paintings that are in connection with the decoration of the destroyed San Pascual Church in Aranjuez (see: José Luis Morales y Marín, Francisco Bayeu, vida y obra, Saragossa 1995, pp. 86-87, cat. nos. 42-46, p. 129, no. 218). Two of these works came into the collection Grassés y du Pont in Barcelona, a third is held at the Museum in Saragossa.
