Unten mittig auf einem Stein datiert "1580". Verso alter, mehrzeilig handbeschriebener Papieraufkleber mit italienischer Beschriftung.
Hinter Glas, im original fein profilierten Palisanderrahmen mit Dreiecksbekrönung.

In äußerst feiner Malweise, in Art von Miniatur- oder Buchmalereitechnik geschaffen, stellt das Bild eine vielfigurige Szenerie dar. Im unteren Teil das Martyrium des Heiligen Stephan, dieser im Zentrum im Priestergewand, umgeben von Gestalten, die gegen ihn die Steine erheben. Zu den Bildseiten hin Männer im Disputationsgespräch. Der Hintergrund landschaftlich gestaltet, mit seitlich je doppelten kräftigen Baumstämmen mit ebenso kräftig grünem Laub. Dazwischen in feinster Malerei Architekturen, Flusslauf und Bogenbrücke. Den oberen Teil des Bildes nimmt eine große, hell erleuchtete Wolkenbank ein, darin Gottvater und Jesus, umgeben von einem Kranz geflügelter Putten sowie bekleideter Engel. Einer der Engel schwebt mit Märtyrerpalme und -kranz herab. Insgesamt von höchster Qualität von Feinmalerei. (11510020) (11)

Outside frame dimensions:
Height: 41 cm.
Width: 24 cm.
Dated "1580" at centre of a stone. Old multi-line paper label with inscription in Italian. Framed with glass in original rosewood frame with fine moulding and triangular surmount.
Very fine painting style in the manner of miniature or illumination technique. The painting depicts a multi-figured scene with the martyrdom of Saint Stephen in the lower part surrounded by figures raising stones at him. Overall fine painting of very high quality.
