Anmerkung:
1648 war der Maler für den Großherzog der Toskana, Ferdinand von Medici, tätig, wo er den Maler Willem van Aelst kennenlernte. Später in Rom tätig, kehrte er mit van Aelst nach Holland zurück. Bekannt geworden ist er durch seine Vorliebe für Insekten und Reptilien, die er selbst in Terrarien hielt und in seinen Werken wiedergab. Das vorliegende Werk zeigt alle Merkmale seines Schaffens und die Qualität seiner Handschrift. (11514322) (11)
