Der mit Picasso, Braque und Cezanne befreundete Künstler gibt dieses intime Motiv einer im Vordergrund liegenden Frau beim Sonnenbad in der kubistischen Formensprache wieder, wie sie von seinen Künstlerkollegen entwickelt worden war. Bereits in den 1920er Jahren hatte Kotik das Thema der liegenden Frau in der Landschaft mehrfach dargestellt, hier jedoch noch in einer weitaus naturalistischen Weise. Das vorliegende Gemälde stellt ein schönes Beispiel dar, wie sich im Werk des Künstlers eine Transformation zu immer abstrakteren Formen hin vollzieht, bis er in seinem reifen Werk schließlich die volle Abstraktion erreicht.
