Alexander und Marina Royzman,
Künstlerpaar des 20./ 21. Jahrhunderts
Aus Odessa stammend, leben und arbeiten
in New York.

Das Künstlerpaar erhielt eine akademische Ausbildung an der Kunsthochschule zu Zeiten der Sowjetunion. Marina widmete sich dann zunächst der Buchillustration, Alexander der Malerei, Fotografie und insbesondere der Bildhauerei. Für die gemeinsamen Arbeiten in Stahl und Bronze finden sie Inspiration bei Jeff Koons (geb. 1955). Die Skulptur „Sphinx“ vereint unterschiedliche Inspirationsquellen. Der Kopf mit dem Antlitz von Elizabeth Taylor ist eine Reminiszens an die Filmerfahrungen von Alexander. Die Bananen auf dem Sockel spielen hingegen auf die Pop-Art, hier auf Andy Warhol, an. The artist couple studied at the Academy of Arts during the Soviet Union era. For their joint works in steel and bronze they take inspiration from Jeff Koons. The sphinx sculpture combines different sources of inspiration. The sculpture's head has the face of Elizabeth Taylor and is a reminiscence of Alexander’s experience in film while the bananas on the base hint at Pop Art in general or Andy Warhol in particular.
