Halbbildnis eines bärtigen Geldwechslers mit pelzverbrämter Kappe, der ein Zeitungsblatt in den Händen hält, in dem er wohl die Wechselkurse studiert. Vor ihm auf dem Tisch sowie in Gefäßen und Säcken Gold- und Silberstücke. Der Innenraum dunkel, Beleuchtung durch das Licht einer rechts stehenden Kerze. In der Literatur (siehe unten) wird das Gemälde aus dem Werk von Godfried van Schalcken (1643 - 1706) verwiesen und dagegen dem Maler Arnold Boonen, einem Schüler Schalckens gegeben (Robinson, 1974,.
S. 226, Abb. 238). Im Text wird auch erwähnt, dass eine Kopie bereits 1941 im Dorotheum in Wien verauktioniert wurde. Weitere Versteigerungen bei Lempertz in Köln, 1909 etc.

The reference listed below refers to a work by Godfried Schalcken, however, attributes the work to the painter Arnold Boonen, a student of Schalcken (Robinson, 1974, p. 226, ill. 238). It also mentions that a copy was already sold at auction in 1941 at the Dorotheum in Vienna. Further auctions at Lempertz in Cologne, 1909 and others are listed.

The text makes references to a painting held at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna executed in oil on canvas and measuring 85 x 66 cm with comprehensive further bibliography regarding the different motif repetitions.
