Das vorliegende Gemälde entstand in dem Jahr als Dahmen den ersten internationalen Kunstpreis für abstrakte Malerei in Lausanne erhielt. In der Werkphase von 1955 bis 1958, der das Gemälde zuzuordnen ist, verarbeitete Dahmen seine zuvor in Paris gesammelten Eindrücke und entwickelte eine frühe, informelle Stilsprache. Die haptische Wirkung der rein abstraken, beinahe dunklen, monochromen Malerei erreichte der Künstler, der sich nur in jenen Jahren rein malerisch ausdrückte, durch die aufgerissene Oberflächenstruktur.
