Der Bildtitel ist vom Künstler eigenhändig auf der Rückwand der Leinwand aufgebracht mit nochmaliger Signatur und Datierung „17.II.1917“.

Das Gemälde zeigt ein Mädchen in weißem Kleid in die Lektüre eines Buches vertieft, in einem Thonet-Schaukelstuhl. Im Interieur eines Musiksalons mit rechts oben stehendem, offenem Klavier. Das Licht tritt durch ein helles, pastos gemaltes Fenster in den Raum. Das Werk gehört in die Frühphase des Künstlers, noch ganz dem ausgeprägtem Impressionsmus verpflichtet, die Farben partiell extrem pastos aufgesetzt, die Lichtstimmung meisterhaft beherrscht. Ferner auf dem Keilrahmen handschriftlicher Aufkleber mit Künstler und Titelbezeichnung. (1002136) (11)

The title of the painting has been written in the artist’s own hand on the back of the canvas, again signed and dated “17.II.1917”. Furthermore handwritten label with artist and title inscription on the stretcher frame.
