Grablegung Christi

Flandern, Anfang 16. Jahrhundert.
Holz, geschnitzt, gefasst und teilvergoldet. Dargestellt ist der Leichnam Christi auf einem Tuch, links von Josef von Arimathäa und rechts von Nikodemus getragen, die den Leichnam auf dem Sarkophag ablegen. Davor am Boden nach links kniend die Heilige Maria Magdalena, die den schlaff herabhängenden Arm Christi umfasst und die Hand küsst. Die Front des Sarkophags mit gereihten Spitzbögen dekoriert. Dem Stil der flämischen Schnitzerei der Zeit entsprechend hat der Bildhauer größtes Augenmerk auf die feine Dekoration und den Detailreichtum in den Gewändern gelegt. So ist die Kopfbedeckung des links stehenden Mannes in einer Art Volutenkapitell aufgefasst. Der gegenüber stehende Nikodemus trägt ebenfalls ein detailreich geschnitztes Kleid. Auch die Gesichter sind markant ausgeführt mit fein geschnitztem Bart und Haupthaaren. Das lange, lockige Haar der Maria Magdalena zieht über die Schultern zum Rücken herab, ihr Kleid in kantigen Faltenschwüngen zieht zum Boden herab. Die Figurengruppe vollplastisch geschnitzt, jedoch an der Rückseite leicht abgeflacht, zur Wand- oder Rückwandbefestigung. Die originale Fassung und partielle Vergoldung größtenteils erhalten mit schöner Alterspatina. Auf samtbezogenem Sockel mit Rückwand montiert. (1001352) (11)

Flanders, beginning of the 16th century.
Carved, polychrome and parcel-gilt wood. The carved sculptural group is free-standing, but the reverse is slightly flattened in order to mount the sculpture to a wall or similar. The original polychrome decoration and partial gilding has been largely preserved with beautiful age patina. Mounted on velvet-lined base.
