Canella war Sohn eines Architekten, der auch als Freskant wirkte. Seine ersten Arbeiten entstanden in Mantua und Verona. 1818 debütierte er auf der Ausstellung der Brera-Akademie in Mailand, danach besuchte er Frankreich und die Niederlande. Später hielt er sich in Rom und Neapel auf.
Die beiden Bilder dokumentieren den Zustand des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts und sind daher von historisch beträchtlichem Interesse und Wert. A.R. (1351702) (11)
