Commode à la Régence

Eleganter Eichenholzkorpus mit Palisanderfurnier und eleganter, schwerer und überreicher vergoldeter Bronzemontierung. Über vier in schweren Sabots stehenden Füßen die geschweiften Beine in den leicht trapezförmigen Korpus mit vier Schüben sans traverse übergehend. Zwischen ihnen ein Régencekopf. Korpus bewegt und bombiert. Den Zügen des Möbels folgende überkragende Marmordeckplatte mit appliziertem Perlbanddekor (rechts hinten mit Fehlstelle). Ein Schlüssel vorhanden. Das Möbel kann François Linke zugeschrieben werden. Marmorplatte rest.

Anmerkung:
Bei dem vorliegenden Möbel handelt es sich um eine Kopie nach der bekannten Kommode, welche heute Antoine-Robert Gaudreau (ca. 1682-1746) zugeschrieben wird und in der Wallace Collection, London, im Small Drawing Room verwahrt wird (Inv. Nr. F85). Dort kennt man mindestens sieben Kopien des 19. Jahrhunderts nach dieser Kommode. Das Originalmöbel stammt aus der Sammlung des Monsieur de Selle (Auktion 19. Februar 1761, Nr. 149) und war davor (um 1865) in der Sammlung von Richard Seymour-Conway, 4th Marquess of Hertford und wird von Hughes auf ca. 1735-1740 datiert; er betont, dass das Möbel auch als Zusammenarbeit von Gaudreaus mit Sébastien-Antoine Slodtz (1695-1754) und Paul – Ambroise Slodtz (1702-1758) gesehen werden kann. Eine ältere Zuschreibung an Cressent wurde jedoch sowohl von Augarde und Ronfort verworfen – zu groß war die Ähnlichkeit der Kommode in der Wallace Collection und des Kabinetts von Gaudreaus und den Gebrüdern Slodtz, welches am 10. Januar 1739 für das cabinet intérieur in Versailles für Louis XV geliefert wurde. (s. Abb.)

Régence commode

96 x 176 x 70.5 cm.
France, 19th century.

Elegant oak carcase with rosewood veneer and elegant, heavy and opulent bronze mountings. Heavy sabots, curved legs, trapeze shaped body with four sans traverse drawers. Régence head in between the drawers. Projecting marble top following the outline of the commode with applied pearl strapwork (blemish at the back on the right). With one key. The commode is attributed to François Linke. Marble top restored.

Notes:
The present piece of furniture is a copy of a famous commode, today attributed to Antoine-Robert Gaudreau (ca. 1682-1746) and held at the Wallace Collection, London, in the Small Drawing Room (inv. no. F85). At least seven 19th century copies are known. The original commode originates from the collection of Monsieur de Selle (Auction 19 February 1761, no. 149) and then held (ca. 1865) at the collection of Richard Seymour-Conway, 4th Marquess of Hertford and is dated to ca. 1735-1740 by P. Hughes. Hughes also points out that the commode may be a collaboration between Gaudreau and Sébastien-Antoine Slodtz (1695-1754) and Paul-Ambroise Slodtz (1702-1758). An earlier attribution to Cressent was disregarded as the similarities with the commode held at the Wallace Collection and the cabinet by Gaudreau and the Slodtz Brothers, delivered on 10 January 1739 for the cabinet intérieur in Versailles for Louis XV, are too obvious.
