Oft wird Meese mit Basquiat verglichen, da im Werk beider textuelle und symbolische Elemente neben figurativen Formen eine Rolle spielen. Das Werk Meeses erinnert jedoch auch an frühe spanische und deutsche expressionistische Werke.
