The virgin and christ child
after Nino Pisano
Height: 61 cm.
After a model by Nino Pisano.
Sicily, 15th century.
A copy of the essay by María Encarnación Cabello Díaz, Málaga about the Madonna in Trapani is enclosed.
The sculpture on offer for sale in this lot in parcel-gilt alabaster draws on a marble sculpture titled “Madonna of Trapani” in the Santissima Annunziata, Trapani, which measures 172 cm and was probably created by a follower of Nino Pisano (1315-1368?). It is likely that it was made by a master of Pisan origin active in Cyprus. Among others, the figure was repeated by Francesco Laurana and Domenico Gagini.
