Beigegeben eine Expertise von Anna Orlando, Oktober 2019, die die Entstehungszeit auf die Zeit von 1637 und 1644 eingrenzt und die sehr gute Qualität wie auch den perfekten Erhaltungszustand hervorhebt.

Ester kniet vor dem thronenden Perserkönig und empfängt ein Schwert, vor dem Thron vermutlich ihr Adoptivvater und Cousin Mordechai. Geschickt hatte Ester, die ihre jüdischen Wurzeln auf Geheiß ihres Adoptivvaters verheimlicht hatte, nicht nur den frei gewordenen Platz neben König Ahasveros errungen, sondern diesen auch von der Umkehrung eines geplanten Genozids an den Juden im persischen Reich überzeugt. Das Schwert mag symbolisch stehen für die zahlreichen getöteten Feinde der Juden – in Susa 500 Männer, in allen 127 Provinzen 75.000 Männer (siehe Buch Ester). Dem vorliegenden Gemälde ist ein posthumes Portrait von Francesco de’ Medici, principe di Toscana, eingegliedert; er befindet sich geharnischt am linken Bildrand und blickt aus dem Bildfeld heraus.

Marchesa Carlotta Cattaneo Adorno Fasciotti Giustiniani, Genua, gestorben 1989.
Diese hatte drei historische Genueser Sammlungen geerbt, darunter die des Palazzo Cattaneo Adorno mit Meisterwerken von Rubens und Van Dyck.

An expert’s report by Anna Orlando, October 2019, is enclosed. She narrows the painting’s period of creation between 1637 and 1644 and emphasizes its very good quality and perfect condition.


Provenance:
Marchesa Carlotta Cattaneo Adorno Fasciotti Giustiniani, Genoa, died 1989.
The marchioness had inherited three historic Genovese collections including the collection of the Palazzo Cattaneo Adorno with masterpieces by Rubens and Van Dyck.
