Vor dunklem Grund hebt sich in Chiaro Scuro-Manier das Hüftstück eines in ländlicher Kleidung gewandeten alten Mannes ab, welcher in seiner Linken eine Schale mit Bohnen, in seiner Rechten einen Löffel mit Solchen hält. Besonders augenfällig sind zwei stilistisch verwandte Vergleichsbeispiele, welche Succi anführt: einmal ein „Filosofo con libro e berretta“ in der Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna sowie ein in einer Privatsammlung befindlicher „Anziano con scaldino“ (Moretto, Savoldo, Romanino, Ceruti: Cento capolavori delle collezioni bresciane, (Hrsg.) Davide Dotti, Mailand, 2013, Nr. 87. Succi nimmt an, dass das Gemälde in Bellottis Mailänder Periode (1670-74) entstanden sein mag. Rest.

Two comparable examples similar in style listed by Succi are: Philosopher with book and beret held at the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna and a painting titled Anziano con scaldino (Moretto, Savoldo, Romanino, Ceruti. Cento capolavori delle collezioni bresciane, ed. Davide Dotti, Milan, 2013, no. 87. Succi believes that the painting was created in Bellotti’s Milan period (1670-74). Rest.
