Seekatz hat mit der stimmungsvollen Stilart seiner Werke auch Johann Wolfgang von Goethe beeindruckt, mit dem er persönlich bekannt war, und der ihn im dritten Band des Werks "Dichtung und Wahrheit" erwähnt.

Gemäldepaar in gleicher Größe, wohl als Gegenstücke gearbeitet. Eines der Bilder zeigt zwei sitzende Knaben, daneben ein weiterer auf einem Stock gestützt stehend, die Gruppe in vor nächtlichem Himmel beleuchtet durch ein Feuer in der linken unteren Ecke. Das Gegenstück zeigt im Zentrum der Darstellung einen Knaben im Wanderkleid mit breitrandigem Hut und umgegürteter Kürbisflasche, der eine Fackel hält, die Flamme vom Wind stark nach rechts geblasen, der Lichtschein wird durch die rechte Hand des Knaben abgeschattet. In der rechten Ecke ein sitzendes Mädchen, links ein kleines Hündchen. Nach hinten zieht die Landschaft zu einem noch leicht erhelltem Abendhimmel. (9910817) (11)
