Beide Gemälde in einheitlich flottem, geschmeidigem Pinselstrich vorgeführt. Das erstgenannte Bild zeigt eine steinige Anhöhe über einem Weg an steilem Abhang, im Vordergrund ein im Schatten schlafender Schäfer mit seinen Tieren. Links hinten setzt sich die Hügellandschaft mit Gebäudegruppen in den Tälern fort, getaucht in mildes Abendlicht. Das Gegenstück zeigt einen Schäfer, der seine Tiere über eine Brücke zu einem ruinösen Gebäude führt. Das untergehende, rötliche Sonnenlicht jeweils von rechts bzw. links kommend, lässt die beiden Gemälde als Pendants zur Wirkung bringen. (981573) (11)
