Der Putto hält eine Schriftbanderole, die um die Gestalt zieht, mit der Aufschrift „CEDVNT MARE VINCVULA“ (auf dem Meer fallen die Fesseln). Das Knäblein vor dunklem Hintergrund über Andeutung von Wolken oder Meerwasser schwebend, das Rot des Manteltuches belebt die Darstellung farblich wirkungsvoll. Der lateinische Text ist ein Ausschnitt aus den geistlichen Exerzitien, die dem Heiligen Antonius gewidmet sind, veröffentlicht u.a. im Jahr 1570. Im Achteck. (981371) (11)
