Im verschatteten Vordergrund sind einige Satyrn und Amoretten an einem Brunnen sowie Ruinenfragmente wiedergegeben. Der rechte Vordergrund ist stark erhellt und zeigt Venus, die mit einer Sternenkrone bekrönt wird und sich im Gespräch mit einem weiteren Gott, der auf einer Wolkenbank zu ihr herankommt, befindet. Im Hintergrund weitere Satyrn beim Tanz. Die linke Bildhälfte wird von einer großen Tempelruine dominiert, im Hintergrund eine befestigte Burg auf einer Landzunge. Die elegante und subtile Lichtführung setzt auf der einen Seite Akzente auf die mythologische Szene im Vordergrund, auf der anderen Seite auf die imposante Wogenarchitektur, die den Mittelgrund beherrscht.
