Jean-Baptist van Mour,
1671 – 1737, zug.
1699 erhielt van Mour vom französischen Botschafter De Ferriol den Auftrag, sich nach Istanbul zu begeben. Bald stand er im Ruf eines Künstlers, der die osmanische Welt gekonnt wiederzugeben vermag. Er erhielt Anerkennung und Ehrung der französischen Regierung in Form des Titels "Peintre Ordinaire du Roy de Levante". 1727 bat ihn der niederländische Botschafter Cornelis Calkoen um die künstlerische Wiedergabe von Zeremonien am Palast Sultan Ahmeds III. Werke van Mours befinden sich im Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.

Jeweils Innenraum eines Frauengemachs, in einem der Bilder ist im Zentrum eine aufsitzende Haremsdame in blauem Kleid mit Laute zu sehen, von links trägt eine junge Dienerin ein Trinkgefäß heran, rechts eine männliche, sitzende Figur. Das Gegenstück zeigt zwei am Boden kniende Haremsdamen beim Brettspiel, im Hintergrund weitere Haremsfrauen, rechts ein Knabe an einem orientalischen Tischchen. (960481)
