Darstellung aus der griechischen Mythologie, wonach Pan die keusche Nymphe Syrinx verführen will. Der Maler hat die vergebliche Liebeswerbung des Pan in neckischer Weise auch dadurch illustriert, dass er den Liebesgott Amor in Gestalt eines geflügelten Knäbleins in der rechten oberen Ecke abziehen lässt. Das Thema ist besonders in der Barockzeit häufig zum Gegenstand der Malerei geworden, wie etwa auch bei Coypel oder Poussin. (960742)
