Verkleinerte Wiederholung des Bildes das sich im Museum der Eremitage in St. Petersburg befindet, entstanden 1655/ 1660 mit den Originalmaßen 124 x 115 cm. Das vorliegende, kleinere Bild ist nach Auskunft der Farbstruktur als ein sehr frühes, wohl nicht lange nach dem Original entstandenes Werk anzusehen, wobei die Malqualität durchaus die Zuweisung an die Werkstatt erlaubt. Das vorliegende Bild zeigt eine wesentlich hellere Farbigkeit. Das Hell-Dunkel des Originals ist hier bereits in ein milderes Lichtfluidum abgewandelt worden. Im Zentrum des Darstellung steht der Jesusknabe in rosafarbenem Kleid in leichter Umarmung mit dem Johannesknaben, der sich ihm zuwendet, den Kreuzstab mit dem Rotulus geschultert. Rechts ein Lamm, das nach oben blickt, Symbol für den Opfertod Christi. Links oben in hell beschienenen Wolken drei geflügelte Putten. Am Boden auf rotem Tuch ausgebreitet eine Schale mit mehreren Früchten.

Aus der spanischen Galerie Laffite, über die Marquesa Villa Toya an den Münchner Antiquar Böhler, ehemals Sammlung Theodor Guilleaume, 1910 mit dem unterstrichenen Vermerk "Bild aus der Zeit" sowie weiterem Provenienzverweis: ehemals Gräfin Strasoldo. (962041)

From the Spanish gallery Laffite, via the Marquesa Villa Toya to the Munich antiques dealer Böhler, formerly Theodor Guilleaume collection, 1910 with underlined note "period painting" and further provenance reference: formerly Countess Strasoldo.
