Holz, geschnitzt, gefasst und ehemals vergoldet. Der große Pelikan steht mit ausgebreiteten Flügeln auf einer - in Andeutung des Wassers - wellig beschnitzten, kräftigen Bodenplatte. Er hat den Kopf nach vorne zu seiner Brust geneigt, vor der sein aus dem Körper getretenes Herz zu sehen ist. An diesem nähren sich drei kleine Jungtiere. In der Brust eine ovale Tür mit verschließbarem Fach. Der Pelikan gilt in der christlichen Kunst als Christus-Symbol, da der Vogel - einem alten Glauben nach - seine Jungen mit seinem Blut füttert, so wie Christus sein Blut für die Menschen gegeben hat. Das außergewöhliche Möbel mag als Behältmis für Messwein gedient haben. Ein Schlüssel. Rest. und Fassungsverluste. (9504859)
