Die biblische Szene in einen dunklen Innenraum gestellt, die Figuren schlaglichtartig in starkem Hell-Dunkel-Effekt beleuchtet, wohl unter dem Einfluss von Alessandro Magnasco. Im Zentrum sitzt Jesus mit rotem Mantel, Rohr, Zepter und Dornenkrone und wird soeben von den Peinigern gegeißelt. Der Raum lediglich durch eine Fackel beleuchtet, die ein junger Krieger rechts trägt. Komposition insgesamt und Auffassung der Lichteffekte von hoher, künstlerischer Qualität, stilistisch dem italienischen Spätmanierismus verpflichtet. (9502449)
