Ein zartes Gestell aus vier, sich nach oben hin leicht zueinander neigenden Metallstangen bildet das Grundgerüst für Melottis Jakobsleiter, die auch Himmelsleiter genannt wird. Sie ist auf drei Etagen durch Streben miteinander verbunden. Im unteren, hohen Bereich laufen drei Treppen parallel nach oben. Sie führen durch stilisierte Wolkenformationen, die an feinen Drahtfäden befestigt sind. Im oberen, kürzeren Geschoss scheint der Weg nicht mehr weiter hoch zu führen, denn hier sind zwei Treppen horizontal liegend zu sehen, über ihnen wieder Wolken.
