Der abgedunkelte Hintergrund zeigt in Struktur eine Felsengrotte mit zentraler, kleiner Nische, darin ein Schädel, darüber gekreuzte Knochen. Vor der Grottenwand mehrere Mönche in unterschiedlichen Positionen, zum Teil am Boden liegend, sitzend und stehend bei der Zubereitung einer abendlichen Mahlzeit, die ein Mönch im Hintergrund mit ausgebreiteten Armen segnet. Am Boden ein weißes Tuch mit darauf liegenden Zinntellern und einem Brotstück. Daneben ein mit einem Messer hantierender Mönch in gebückter Haltung. Rechts im Bild zwei Mönche mit einem Buch im Gebet versunken. Links hinten der rötliche Schein der untergehenden Sonne am fernen Horizont, davor ein Kreuz, vor dem ein Mönch in Anbetung kniet. Komposition in pyramidalem Aufbau, die Beleuchtung - wie bei dem genannten Maler üblich - in nahezu unwirklicher, geheimnisvoller Atmosphäre. Rest. Pressdoubliert. Einige helle Kratzer auf der Maloberfläche. (9400131)
