Auf einer weißen Fläche liegen stillebenhaft, jedoch nebeneinander gruppiert zwei größe. gefüllte, rosafarbene Rosen mit dornigem Stiel und fein gearbeiteten Rosenblättern, im Zentrum nach unten gelegt, zum rechten Bildrand hin mit der Blütenöffnung nach rechts. Am Stiel eine weitere noch geschlossene Knospe. Im Vordergrund mehrere Meeresschnecken, dazwischen ein Nachtfalter, ein brauner Schmetterling sowie eine Raupe. Links oben ein roter, schwarz gepunkteter Schmetterling. Die Malerei miniaturhaft äußerst fein vorgeführt, mit feiner Schattengebung und Weißhöhungen. Links mittig ein etwa 5 mm großes, durch das Pergamentmaterial bedingtes Loch. Im oberen Teil ist der Untergrund etwas nachgedunkelt. (941281)
