Nach dem Muster zahlreicher Bildauffassungen dieses Themas ist auch hier der konisch nach oben sich verjüngende Turm mit den spiralig ansteigenden Geschoßen ins Zentrum des Bildes gesetzt. Gemäß des Bibeltextes ist der Turm im oberen Teil noch unvollendet. Im Vordergrund sind mehrere Steinhandwerker bei ihrer Arbeit zu sehen, links ein vor dem König von Babel kniender Architekt, der den Plan erklärt, dahinter geharnischte Soldaten. Am fernen Horizont eine in hellem Licht liegende Stadt, im Mittelgrund der Flusslauf des Euphrat. (941351)
