Vertikal ausgerichtetes, hexagonales Zifferblatt mit eingelassenem, verglastem Kompass und klappbarem Gnomon in Vogelform. Fein gravierte arabische und römische Ziffern, Unterseite ebenfalls fein graviert.

Anmerkung:
Der französische Mathematiker Nicolas Bion hatte seine Werkstatt am Quai de l'Horloge du Palais. Sein berühmtes Werk über mathematische Instrumente (Traité de la construction et des principaux usages des instrumens de mathématique) zeigt 1752 das Instrument nach dem Butterfield-Prinzip auf S. 376 (Abbildung). Das Objekt selbst wird auf S. 388 besprochen. (9408115)
