Äußerst seltenes Majolika-Aquamanile in Gestalt eines Tieres

Auf vier kleinen Füßen steht der zylindrische Körper. Die Ausgusstülle formt der Tierkopf, die Öffnung zum Befüllen erscheint wie ein kurzer Schwanz. Zwischen den beiden vollplastischen Elementen spannt sich der Henkel. Der gesamte Körper ist von einem flachen Relief mit spätgotischen Formen überzogen. Das Relief gibt die Struktur der Bemalung vor. Auf der Front ist eine Rosette, hinten gotisches Blattwerk zu sehen. Die Bemalung in Grün, Blau und Rot. Ein Fuß wieder angesetzt, Glasurabplatzungen. Haarrisse.

Very rare maiolica aquamanile in the shape of an animal
Height: 20.5 cm.
Width: 14 cm.
Depth: 21 cm.
Padua, late 15th century.

Cylindrical body on four small feet. The spout in the shape of an animal head, the funnel is shaped like a short tail. A handle arches over these two sculpted parts of the aquamanile. The whole body is covered with late Gothic patterns in bas-relief. The designs of the decorative painting follow the structure of the relief patterns. The front is decorated with a rosette, the back with Gothic foliage. Painted in green, blue and red. One foot broken and re-stuck, glaze chips. Hair crack lines.
