Deckel erg.

Maiolica jar with lid
Height: 25 cm.
Diameter: 14 cm.
Faenza, early 16th century.

Cylindrical jar with lid and slightly tapered base, the edges and rim decorated with delicate, diagonal relief indentations. The shallow-domed lid with a red, cone-shaped knob. Body divided into sections by painted decoration in geometrical design. A broad band is painted around the middle of the body with delicate tondi details similar to rosettes, which provide a strong decorative contrast with the dark blue ground of the band; this central band is flanked by narrower bands painted with delicate, blue patterns. The ground colour of these minor bands mirrors that of the main central strip. Painted in blue, yellow and orange on a white ground. Restored crack on jar and lid, glazing chips. Glazing on lid blemished. Lid supplemented.
