Maiolica jug
Height: 29 cm.
Diameter: 15.5 cm.
Montelupo, 15th century.

Tall, slim jug with small foot ring, ovoid body and wide spout. Late Gothic decoration. A tondo with a broad frame at the front depicts a portrait of a young woman in left-facing profile. She wears a green bonnet tied under her chin, over her loose hair. Her face is framed by a border which echoes the shape of her face, tracing the outline of her face, that border in-filled with decorative trios of blue dots. A band around the tondo is painted with vines and flowers in alla porcellana style. The broad frame with radial stripes is surrounded by late Gothic foliage ending in alla porcellana vines. Painted in blue, green, orange and manganese on a crème ground. Restored.

Notes:
A certificate of authenticity employing the thermoluminescence method dated 2003 is enclosed with the jug.
