Blick in einen Hohlweg entlang eines Krüppelweidengestrüpps. Im Zentrum ein junges Mädchen in langem Kleid mit blauer Schürze und Hut mit einem Spinnroggen, davor vier Gänse, die sie zu hüten hat. Weiter hinten zwei Ziegen am Weg sowie links zwei kleinere Mädchen, die dabei sind, am Boden ein Feuer zu machen. Die Szenerie beschaulich, nahezu idyllisch, die Hirtenmädchen in nobler Erscheinung, adrett gekleidet, wirkungsvoll die heller wiedergegebenen Gänse im Vordergrund sowie die harmonische Farbgebung der Blau-Grau-Töne in den Kleidern der Mädchen. Naturalistisch-realistische Wiedergabe der Szenerie, die einen alltäglichen Bildgegenstand künstlerisch erhöht. (861255)
