Toskanischer Maler des 14. Jahrhunderts

In Dreiviertelansicht wiedergegeben, nahezu frontal zum Betrachter stehend in rosafarbenem Kleid mit darübergelegtem, dunkelblauem Manteltuch. In der rechten Hand ein Buch, in der linken ein Wanderstab mit Taufkessel, daran Muschelsymbol. Die Figur auf Goldgrund, Außenrand und Nimbus punziert.

Anmerkung:
Das Gemälde war lange der Bologneser Schule des 14. Jahrhunderts zugeordnet. Neuere Recherchen jedoch haben ergeben, dass der Maler im Kreis der toskanischen Schule einzuordnen ist. Bereits Federico Zeri hat 1959 gewisse Verwandtschaft mit dem Meister der Heiligen Verdiana festgestellt und damit auch den Einfluss von Taddeo Gaddi und dem Meister der Madonna "Straus". Der letztere Zuweisungsvorschlag bringt das Bild auch in die Nähe der beiden Heiligendarstellungen aus dem Triptychon der Sammlung Léger in London, San Francesco d'Assisi und San Giacomo Maggiore, die wiederum in ihrer Komposition mit Pietro Miniato und dem Maestro von San Davino in Verbindung stehen.

Note:
For a long time the painting was classified as being from the 14th century Bologna school, but new research has reclassified the artist in the circle of the Tuscan school. In 1959, Federico Ceri discovered a certain similarity to the master of St. Verdiana as well as influences of Taddeo Gaddi and the master of the Madonna "Straus".The latter suggestion of an attribution puts the image stylistically closer to both depictions of the saints Saint Francis of Assisi and of the Apostle James, son of Zebedee in a triptych from the Collection of Léger in London.
