Die landschaftliche Darstellung zeigt ein nach rechts hochziehendes, die Szene leicht verschattendes Felsmassiv, in einer Felshöhle eine höher stehende, kannelierte Säule mit plastischer Figur. Davor ein Brunnenbau mit davor stehendem Becken, überhöht durch die Skulptur eines muscheltragenden Putto, der auf einem Delfin sitzt. Am weiten Brunnenrand zwei Rinder, Schafe und Ziegen, dazwischen Personenstaffage mit Darstellung von Hirten und jungen Frauen in lebendigem Gespräch. Ein junger Hirte sattelt einen Esel ab. Links im Hintergrund zieht eine antike, steinerne Bogenbrücke über einen Fluss mit hochstehendem Brückenturm vor bergiger Wolkenlandschaft.
