Bewegtes Kampfgetümmel, drei Reiter großformatig im Vordergrund wiedergegeben, in feiner Malerei. Ein niedergehender Schimmel zwischen zwei braunen Pferden komponiert, den darauf sitzenden, rot gekleideten Reiter trifft soeben ein Pistolenschuss. Links ein geharnischter Reiter mit Schwert und Lanze auf einem fliehenden Pferd zurückblickend. Links dahinter nachziehende Reiter. Die Reiterschlacht greift Vorbilder der barocken Schlachtenmalerei auf, hier jedoch übersetzt in feinere Detailmalerei. Die Figuren in historischen Kostümen des 17. Jahrhunderts psychologisch-dramatisch überhöht. (8210327)
