Der griechischen Legende nach hat der bocksfüßige Marsias sich im Wettkampf mit Apollo eingelassen, den Wettstreit verloren, wonach er an einem Baum gehäutet wurde. Qualitätvolle Figurenauffassung. Der Bocksbeinige in leicht gedrehter Haltung am Baum stehend, um die Lenden einen Blattzweig gelegt, an einem Aststumpf ein Löwenfell. Auf mitgearbeitetem, nahezu quadratischem Felssockel. Bei der Plastik handelt es sich möglicherweise um einen Bozzetto für eine Ausführung in Marmor. (790035)
