Die querformatige, mit antiker Architektur gerahmte Szenerie zeigt mittig im Vordergrund Diogenes, der mit einer Laterne die ihn Umstehenden zu beleuchten scheint. Wie der Blick durch den die Laterne überfangenden Rundbogen, sowie die natürliche Beleuchtung weiterer Personen zeigen, ist es jedoch hellichter Tag. "Ich suche einen Menschen", so erläutert Diogenes sein Handeln und deutet damit auf den Umstand hin, dass das Wesen des Menschen schwer zu fassen ist. (791131)
