Einzelblatt einer Handschrift auf Pergament, 45 x 27 cm, Einbandmakulatur, am unteren Rand (1 Zeile) und rechts (1 Buchstabe) beschnitten, zweispaltig, 52 Zeilen, dreizeilige L-Initiale in rot, Florenz, drittes Viertel 12. Jh.

Statt der gängigen romanesca hier eine carolina, eine deutlich rückwärtsgewandte Schrift, die sich an touronenser Bibeln des 9. Jahrhunderts und Sankt Galler Schriften um 900 orientiert. Unter Rückgriff auf diese Vorbilder entstand vor allem in der Toskana im späten 11. und 12. Jahrhundert eine kalligraphisch hochstehende Schriftkultur. Das sehr gut erhaltene Blatt aus einer toscanischen Riesenbibel in bester Kalligraphie, das noch eine alte Preisaufschrift „L[ire] 1000" trägt, wurde wohl nachträglich mit einer Miniatur in Form dreier Medaillons mit Jesus, Moses und Aaron in ostkirchlichem Stil „aufgebessert".
