Der Maler wurde von Madame de Pompadour protegiert, für die er 1753 eine allegorische Verherrlichung von Louis XV. malte, er war bekannt für seine oft fantastischen Bildthemen und seine Vorlagen für den Ornamentstich. Werke seiner Hand in den Museen zu Amiens, Avignon, Darmstadt, Paris (Louvre) etc.
