Die Szene in romantische Lichtwirkung gesetzt, im Vordergrund hinter einem Baum mit durchlichtetem Laubwerk ein alter Handwerker, damit beschäftigt, Schieferdachschindeln herzustellen, wobei ihm ein kleines Mädchen und ein Knabe zusehen. Weiter hinten links ein Mann in grauem Anzug mit Strohhut, der eine rote Flagge am Ufer des Rheins hisst, im Hintergrund Blick auf ein Städtchen mit Kirche, Türmen und Ufergebäuden, dahinter Fels mit Burgruine. Rechts im Bild eine Schar Hühner mit Küken vor einem Steingebäude sowie Handwerker beim Teeren eines Schiffes. In der linken Bildhälfte Blick in den Verlauf des Rheinstromes mit mehreren Schiffen und einem kleinen Dampfer. (770481)
