Wiedergabe der Landschaft in nahezu arkadischer Idealität. Im Vordergrund am Ufer reiche Figurenstaffage mit netzeeinziehenden Fischern auf anlegenden Segelbooten, links am Bildrand ein Segelschiff, das entladen wird. Die rechte Bildhälfte beherrscht von einem hohen Felsen, zu dem ein Aquädukt führt, aus dessen Bogenöffnungen ein Wasserfall hervorspringt. Darüber römische Ruinenreste in Art des Vesta-Tempels bei Tivoli, umgeben von Zypressen.
Im Hintergrund Blick auf eine befestigte Hafenstadt mit einem Leuchtturm, hinterfangen von einem kegelförmig hochziehenden Berggipfel. Die Szenerie in spätes Abendlicht getaucht. (701845)
