Es handelt sich um die Szene aus Josephus Flavius: Alexander der Große begrüßt vor den Toren von Jerusalem den Hohepriester, der sich als Diener “des einen Gottes“ ausweist. Ein thematisch ähnliches Gemälde befindet sich in der Sammlung Sebisch im Museum der Bildenden Künste in Breslau, ebenso Öl/Kupfer.
